Guro, Rivas are WIBA World champions

DAVAO CITY – Former world champion Norj Guro and Carleans “Chay” Rivas beat separate opponents in contrasting ways to win the WIBA World championships yesterday, May 30 at Spaceplus Bangkok RCA in Bangkok, Thailand.

Guro landed countless left and right punches against Phunnakran Karnjanawong of Thailand to bag the WIBA World Atom title via a unanimous decision.

Guro improved her record to 13-8-1, 4KOs while Karnjanawong suffered her third loss against 4 wins and 1.

Rivas, on the other hand, knocked out Panumad Bubpamalo of Thailand in the 4th round to win the WIBA World light flyweight title.

Rivas first knocked down the Thai twice in the 1st round and continued her assault with left-right short punches in the 2nd round.

Rivas now has 9 wins against 7 loss and 4 draws while Bubpamalo suffered her 5th loss against 4 wins.

The other results:

Sheau Yang [6-0-0] of Taiwan beat Tanwarat Saengguamjit of Thailand to win the WIBA World super bantamweight title.

Jimmy “Popeye” Paypa [20-6-1, 8KOs] of Lanao del Norte stopped Campee Phayom [24-11-2, 16KOs] of Thailand in the 1st round for the ABF super lightweight title.

Jayr “The Dreamer” Raquinel of Negros Occidental scored a 2nd round technical knockout against Komurch Nantapech of Thailand.

Ador “Termanitor” Torres of Sorsogon outpunched Jatsada Pithakdanthai of Thailand via a unanimous decision.

Ismat Guliyey scored a UD over Ahmad Sasmir Dawrani to win the WBC Asia Silver middleweight.

Supanat Chanram and Brico Santig of Highland Boxing Promotions are the promoters.
