
Arca sweeps Dujali Rapid chess fest

FM Christian Gian Arca ruled in his own turf by capturing the individual category of the 3rd Cong. Alan Dujali Rapid Team Chess Tournament last April 27 at the Maria Clara Resort in Panabo City.
The 15-year-old Arca, who is fresh from the Bangkok Open tournament, swept all seven rounds to win P30,000 and a trophy awarded by sponsor Cong. Alan “Duja” Dujali.
Arca first beat John Boynn Ortiz of South Cotabato then crushed Aaron Aton of Davao City. He then dominated Allen Mirano of North Cotabato before thumping Davao’s Rhynan Arce in the 4th round.
In the 5th round, Arca got the better of veteran Jayson Salubre of Mariboloc, Bohol. He then stunned compatriot Gerald Cavan in the 6th. Arca kept his composure in the 7th round to conquer NM Macacuna Macala of Davao.
Salubre, on the other hand, finished second after beating with a better quotient AGM Irwin Aton with identical 6.0 points.
Salubre got P20,000 while Aton received P10,000.
Cavan secured third runner-up after making 5.5 points to earn P5,000.
Macala, who scored 5.0, gained fourth runner-up to earn P3,000 while fifth runner-up Jay Bulicatin had P2,000.
Meanwhile, the pair of John Gerard Acedo and Rodel Alsado of the Hon. Omar Ranain team ruled the dual team event last April 28.
Acedo earned 5.5 points while Alsado got 5.0 for a total of 10.5 points after seven rounds. Ranain bested Agusan del Sur by a better quotient to win P40,000 and a trophy.
Agusan’s Ryman Pantaleon [5.5] and Jerry Muarag [5.0] settled for first runner-up to win P25,000 and trophy.
Team Cavan finished second runner-up with 9.0 points and P15,ooo while Cong. Aldu 1 composed of Reynaldo Quinonez [4] and Donlorenz Villaraza [6] won 3rd runner-up for P10,000 and a medal.
Team MZM bannered by Rolando Simacon [3.5] and Jandee Honrada [6.5] to place 4th runner-up and P6,000, while 5th runner-up went to Aqua Eternal A powered by Rhynan Arce [5.0] and Kim Lester Alipo [5.0] to get P4,000.
The tournament was organized by Homer Rotulo while the tournament director was Darwin Bermudez. Chief arbiter was NM James Infiesto.
