Dimzon, Mesa win as Sinsuat falters

DAVAO CITY -- Host Daneea Balabaram Sinsuat of Cotabato surprisingly lost in both 10 Unisex and12U Girls finals of the 1st Daneea Balabaran Sinsuat Tennis Championships yesterday at the Flores Village in Bangkal.

The 9-year-old Sinsuat, who is ranked no. 1 in 10 Unisex by Philta, bowed to no. 2 seed Francis Jayvee Dimzon of Maragusan by decision,6-7, 6-4, 10-6.

Sinsuat also passed to Rhiana Mae Mesa of Davao City by a retirement after a score of 2-0 in the 12U Girls.

Sinsuat entered the finals of the 10Unisex by trashing Davao’s Ariss Macapendeg, 6-0, 6-1 while Dimzon lambasted Banaybanay’s Kyle Otig, 6-3,6-0.

In the 12U semifinals, Sinsuat, who is also ranked no. 4 by Philta, dominated Eco 2’s Erameya Yparraguire, 6-1, 6-0, while Mesa crushed Davao’s Armaryne Palac, 6-2, 6-0.

Christine Mesa of Davao created havoc by beating top seed PrincessPlaca of Digos, 6-3, 7-5 in 14U girls.

Dhea Angelica Cua of Kidapawan kept her composure and proved to be the top seed in the 16U girls.

She got the better of no. 2 Chloe Loy Busig of Bukidnon, 6-0,6-0 in the finals.

Cua, however, lost in the finals of the 18U Girls to Chelsea Bernaldez of Bansalan, 6-1 [retirement].

Bernaldez also hammered out Ana Althea Salahuddin of Digos, 6-4,6-1 in the finals of the 21U Girls.

Tournament director Titong Cansino said the boy’s division was still playing as of press time.
