Jayson "The Striker" Vayson retained his WBO Asia Pacific light flyweight title in dramatic fashion last night (April 21st) at the Sumiyoshi Ward in Osaka, Japan. He secured a unanimous decision victory over Japanese challenger Takeru Inoue after scoring a crucial knockdown in the 10th round.
The 25-year-old Vayson also downed the Japanese in the 8th round but was not counted.
Vayson of Agusan del Sur was also always hit illegally at the back of his head by Inoue throughout the fight. But the referee only warned Inoue and did not make any deductions.
The scores were 97-93, 96-94 and 96-94, all in favor of Vayson.
It was the first title-defense by Vayson, who now improved his record to 12 wins, 1 loss, 1 draw with six knockouts.
The 25-year-old Inoue suffered his first loss after four straight wins with two knockouts.
Vayson was accompanied by veteran trainer-coach Alan Alegria, a former Philippine welterweight champion.
