Maquilan.
NOLI James “The Explosive” Maquilan is now the new WBC Asian Continental bantamweight champion after he stopped Benny “The Bull” Canete last Sunday, March 24 at the Okada Manila Hotel in Paranaque City.
Maquilan of Davao de Oro [formerly Compostela Valley] threw a solid left in the 7th round that sent Canete down on the canvas.
The 23-year-old Canete of Siquijor never stood up for a few minutes as Maquilan celebrated for victory.
It was a non-stop action since the start of the fight. Canete was more aggressive but Maquilan kept his composure while backpedaling.
Maquilan almost slipped while backpedaling in the first round.
Maquilan improved his record to nine wins with six knockouts against one loss while Canete suffered his second loss against 10 wins with seven knockouts.
Meanwhile, former WBO Global flyweight champion Gimel “Pistolero” Magramo of Paranaque beat ex-champion Denmark “Tornado” Quibido of Misamis Oriental to grab the Philippine super flyweight title in the main event.
The 29-year-old Magramo now has 29 wins with 23 knockouts and four losses while Quibido suffered his 3rd loss against 13 wins and one draw.
RV “The Crusher” Deniega of General Santos City won the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight title after outpointing former WBC Asian super flyweight champion Adrian “Wild Beast” Lerasan of Antipolo City.
Johnny Elorde and Manny Pacquiao promoted the boxing event.
