“The Explosive” Noli James Maquilan of Davao de Oro will fight Benny Canete of Siquijor for the vacant WBC Asian Continental bantamweight title on March 24 at the Okada Manila Hotel and Casino in Paranaque City.

Maguilan won the Philippine Boxing Federation super flyweight title last November 11, 2023 by stopping Dannel Maamo of Misamis Oriental in the 4th round in Quezon City.

Maquilan has won four fights last year and has a total of eight wins with five knockouts against one loss and one draw.

Canete has a better record than Maquilan with 10 wins against seven knockouts with one loss.

The 23-year-old Canete lost to Kenneth Lloyer by unanimous decision for the PBF bantamweight title last January 21, 2023 in Mandaluyong City.

But Canete bounced back by winning two fights.

Canete first crushed Renoel Pael by a UD last April 28 in Lapu-Lapu City then beat Jun Blazo by a majority decision last October 28 in Tuburan.

Canete then knocked out Phissanu Chimsunthom of Thailand in the 1st round last January 26 at NUSTAR Resort and Casino in Cebu.

The event is promoted by Johnny Elorde of JE Promoted and Manny Pacquiao of MP Promotions. Matchmaker is Art Monis.
