DAVAO CITY – Madelyn Carter ruled again in the women’s open in the 42-kilometer race of the Davao City Marathon held Sunday, March 10 at the NCCC Mall VP in Bajada.

But the victory was sweeter since her partner Elmer Bartolo also won the men’s open 42k.

Bartolo, who turns 42 in September, clocked two hours, 48 minutes and 36 seconds.

He was followed in second by Rodel Salvane of Bukidnon at 2:58:24 while third was Joey Pancho at 3:03:28.

“I was leading all the way but my body was already getting exhausted,” said Bartolp.

Bartolo was ahead than Carter for he wanted a better time.

“I just crashed on the way back in the last 8k because of the wind yesterday during the race,” said Bartolo.

It was first time for Bartolo and Carter to win both 42K.

Carter, however, had dominated last year when it was still named Davao International Marathon at NCCC Mall.

Carter, who had a time of 3:32:58 in winning the women’s division, was followed by Joy Camban in second with 4:14:06.

Third was Marivel Suarez at 4:19:15.

The 44-year-old Carter had earlier finished second in the 7/11 Cagayan de Oro leg 42k last February 5, 2024 while Bartolo placed third.

But they also finished first in the Cebu SM2SM 21k held last March 3 in the 40-49 category.

“Right now we still don’t have a schedule, we are still resting our tired body,” said Bartolo, who also acts as a trainer.

In the 21K race, Jorge Andrade won the men’s division with a time of 1:10:06.

Second was Mark Rayniel Hubag at 1:11:27 followed by Ricky Osabel Jr. at 1:18:27.

In the distaff side, Leedy Ericka Villamonte topped at 1:31:22 followed by Kkymille Rodriguez at 1:51;08.

Third was Nicole Pawid at 1:51:20.
