NEWLY-CROWNED OPBF light flyweight champion Miel “Silent Assassin” Fajardo of Agusan del Sur will defend his title in Japan against Thanongsak Simsri of Thailand on April 13 at the EDION Arena in Osaka.

The 24-year-old Fajardo, who is making his first title-defense, is going to Benguet via Baguio City Sunday, March 10 to continue his training from Manila.

He will be accompanied by his trainer Ericxon Asilo and will stay in Benguet until they depart for Japan.

“We still do not know when we are going to Japan,” said Fajardo.

He will be joined by his manager Jose “Monty” Flores and business manager Brico Santig.

Fajardo is expected to spar with the boxers at Highland Boxing Gym.

In his last fight, Fajardo beat John Paul Gabunilas of Cebu by a 1st round technical knockout last August 15, 2023 at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.

Fajardo has 11 wins with 10 knockouts, one loss and two draws.

“I'm excited because it's my first time in Japan, and the opponent is good. So let's just try,” said Fajardo.

Simsri, on the other hand, has 32 wins with 30 knockouts with one loss.

The 23-year-old Simsri had six bouts last year, all in victory.

His last fight was against Bordin Chompoo who was stopped by a TKO in the 1st round last December 16 in Pathum Thani, Thailand.

The boxing promoter in Japan is Masaya Motoishi of Green Tsuda Promotions.
