REIGNING IBF World and WBA Super World super bantamweight champion Marlon “Nightmare” Tapales has started his sparring session with orthodox Herlan “Nino Bonito” Gomez and Jon Jon “Wolverine” Estrada last November 8 at the Shape Up Boxing Gym in Baguio City.
The 31-year-old Tapales had three rounds each on Gomez and Estrada.
“Sparring is okay. Gomez and Jon Jon Estrada give good sparring,” said Tapales’ manager JC Manangquil.
The other sparring partner, Vincent “Asero” Astrolabio, is still in Davao but is expected to arrive in Baguio next week.
Tapales and his team will fly to Japan before Dec. 26 the scheduled date for the unification title fight against WBC and WBO World super bantamweight champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue at Ariake Arena in Koto-Ku, Tokyo.
Tapales is currently trained by former featherweight Ernel “Assassin” Fontanilla of Sarangani Province.
Also with the team is Manangquil’s secretary Ramon Falgui.
