THE title-bout between Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) super flyweight champion Kevin Jake “KJ’’ Cataraja of Cebu against ex-OPBF champion Jay-r “The Dreamer” Raquinel of Negros Occidental on November 11 was postponed to February 2024 at the Prefectural Budokan in Nagoya.
“It was postponed to February 2024 due to what happened with one of the Mexican boxers,” said Brico Santig, manager of Raquinel.
World Boxing Association Fedecentro super featherweight champion Carlos Flores Villa (23-1-0, 13KOs) lost his passport and could not travel to Japan.
He needs to get a new one and apparently that will take time.
Villa alias “El Stich” was supposed to fight Masanori Riliisho (14-1-0, 9KOs) of Japan for one of the main events promoted by Koki Kameda of Kameda Promotions.
And so the Filipino boxers will have to go home and train again in the Philippines.
“Everyone is disappointed because both camps were prepared for the same thing to happen, but we need to move on, that's boxing,” said Santig.
The teams of Cataraja and Raquinel are expected to leave on November 12 after they both arrived last November 8 on the same plane.
