Renowned trainer Freddie Roach will open his gym today, a Sunday, just to accomodate IBF miniflyweight king Florante Condes who is training for his June 14 defense against unbeaten Raul Garcia in La Paz, Mexico.
Condes' Filipino promoter Sammy Gello-ani, in a long-distance interview with Philboxing.com moments ago, revealed that Roach was kind enough to offer Condes his gym even if it is normally close on Sundays.
"Freddie said he will open it on Sunday just to accomodate Condes," Gello-ani stated, noting that Roach has remained very warm and friendly to every Filipino fighter who works out at the gym.
Condes' Filipino trainer Danny Bactol, in a separate interview, said that the gesture by the renowned trainer was highly appreciated by Team Condes, which leaves for La Paz late morning on Monday.
Team Condes also specially made mention of the assistance provided to them by renowned orthodontist Dr Ed De la Vega, who accomodated them at the Vagabond Inn in LA, which is just a walking distance from Roach's Wild Card Gym next door.
The team also thanks LA-based Pex Aves and his family for steadfastly remaining as friends through thick and thin.
Condes, in an interview with Philboxing.com today, has stated he is ready to go, and ready to defend his title no matter what.
"Labang-laban na ako. Kundisyong-kundisyon na, walang ng atrasan ito. Bakbakan na kami," said Condes, who proudly informed he will be wearing the custom-made mouthpiece made by De la Vega when he plunges into war.
