Christian Balunan becomes the first boxer from the Mandaue City-based Villamor Boxing Gym to win a regional title. He is now a regional boxing champion after scoring a magnificent third round knockout on Thai Adetip Maungchaoren in the co-main event of “Kumong Bol-Anon XII” last night, November 4, 2023, at the Bohol Wisdom School gymnasium in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

The 23-year-old Balunan decked Maungchaoren in the third round of their bout. The Thai went down on the canvas 43 seconds left in the third round.

The win raised Balunan’s flawless record to nine wins including five knockouts, while Maungchaoren suffered his first loss in five bouts with three knockouts.

Balunan trained hard for months under skilled trainer Edito Villamor in Mandaue City. He deserved to become the champion in the WBO because according to him he did everything for this fight, trained hard and instilled discipline.

He was thankful to his coach Villamor, and that he is really focused on winning the WBO title which is a big opportunity for him and for their team VBGym and PMI Boxing Promotion.

The 17-year-old Maungcharoen is Baluran's first foreign opponent. His first crucial fight was last June 24 when he defeated Ariston Aton (9-7 with 5KOs) by unanimous decision in Consolacion, Cebu.

Balunan is a more experienced fighter than Maungcharoen. He won several accolades as amateur boxer with 16 gold medals and two silvers. He won gold medals in various meets including the Batang Pinoy Games and other national, and regional tournaments.

Maungcharoen won his two previous bouts by knockouts when he defeated his countrymen Phongpat Kenkampa and Wasin Khongphueak.
