WBO no. 7 and WBO NABO junior middleweight champion Charles "The Killa" Whitaker has just arrived at the American Boxing Academy in Digos City, Philippines on May 30th.

Whitaker will be staying and training in the Philippines for the next 2 weeks at the newly opened American Boxing Academy camp in Mindanao. The Cayman Islands fighter is preparing for his upcoming fight on June 20 in his native country on Showtime Television.

It will be the second time American Boxing Academy has hosted Whitakers training camp. In March 2008 the world rated Whitaker stayed and trained at American Boxing Academy's compound in the Philippines for 2 weeks, before going back overseas to KO his opponent in the very first round.

"I hope that Whitaker's stay at my American Boxing Academy in Digos City will convince him to fight here in the next 3 months. The Philippines is ready for world class foreigners to box here. I intend to bring them to my promotions on Mindanao.. I hope Charles will be our first," said ABA owner and founder Ken Smith.

"The fact that Whitaker has chosen to train at our facility says something about world class boxing returning to the Philippines. All Filipinos recognize their country's competence when it comes to boxing, now the rest of the world is too"..

"I am going to be involved in Boxing in the Philippines as sure as Manny is going into World Boxing Hall Of Fame.. The amount of talented fighters here is far greater than in Mexico.. I see the Filipinos overtaking the Mexicans as the best little men in boxing very soon. I intend to watch the show from ringside. American Boxing Academy only succeeds if Philippine fighters succeed," added Smith.
