KARATEKAS Robert Dayanan and Heleina Dominique So are this year’s Athletes of the Year awardees in the 29th So Kim Cheng Foundation Annual Sports Awards held at the Eskina in Lanang Business Park last July 23.

So is the great granddaughter of the late So Kim Cheng.

The prestigious So Kim Cheng Foundation headed by its Chairman. So Peng Kee held its partnership with the Davao City Sports Council led by president Dominic Dexter So.

It is the longest-running private organization event dedicated to honoring outstanding homegrown athletes who have excelled in their respective sports fields.

This year's celebration marked a significant milestone as it extended to a two-day event, showcasing the extraordinary athletic prowess of grassroots athletes.

The first day of the event was also held at Eskina last July 22 at the 2nd Dula Dabawenyo, a platform where athletes from four different National Sports Associations - athletics, chess, archery, and arnis - demonstrated their talents.

Then a grand awarding ceremony last July 23 showcased the pinnacle of sporting achievement and celebrated the extraordinary accomplishments of individuals in their respective fields.

The event was made even more memorable as they commemorated the birthday of the late So Kim Cheng, the organization’s founder.

University of Mindanao Sport Director David Dwight Peñano was the guest speaker last July 23 while invited guests were City Councilors Jessica Bonguyan and Richlyn Justol – Baguilod.
