MADELYN Miranday of Siargao beat former marathon queen Maria Estela Mamac-Diaz of Davao City in the women’s division of the Davao International Marathon 42K last March 5 at the People’s Park in Davao City.

The 43-year-old Miranday took the lead against Diaz in the turning point at Buhangin diversion highway and never looked back.

Miranday finished at three hours, 59 minutes and 7 seconds followed in second by the 51-year-old Diaz at 4:03:12.

Miranday pocketed P8,000 while Diaz, who only made her second full marathon since making a comeback last January, received P6,000.

Third is Rosalyn Agatia of the Island Garden City of Samal with 4:07:53 for P4,000.

“It’s a challenge for me to go back to training now that I'm in good health,” said Diaz.

Meanwhile, Ramil Neri of Bukidnon won the 42k men’s division at 2:43:01.

Second was Rodel Salvane of Toril at 2:47:11 followed by Alvin Busa of New Zealand at 2:47:52.

More than 300 runners joined the 42k race according to race director Roel Amabao-Ano.
