MICHAEL Casama of Matalam, North Cotabato will face veteran Ryan Rey “Mr. Pogi Jhongihong” Ponteras of Panabo City for the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation featherweight title on March 9 in Norala, South Cotabato.

Casama, who is managed by Percy Anthony Consolacion, is sparring with new Philippine Boxing Federation super featherweight champion Presco “The Iceman” Carcosia and ex-WBO Asia Pacific champion Froilan “The Sniper” Saludar.

“I thank my promoter and manager for the opportunity they gave me that I can fight for the championship,” said 22-year-old Casama.

Casama recently settled a technical draw with Rey Ramos in the 2nd round due to head blows last December 31, 2022 in Tagum City.

Casama, earlier, lost by an upset to Pablito Canada of Pagadian City via a technical knockout in the 6th round last August 24, 2022 at Sanman Gym in Gensan.

“It's very painful, but I have to accept it. It's a sport and I'm sorry that I lost,” said Casama.

Casama has eight wins, one loss, one draw with eight knockouts.

“I know that I'm also lacking and I'm going to continue to train well,” added Casama, who is afraid to lose again.

Ponteras, who has 23 wins, 18 loses, 3 draws with 12 knockouts, had three bouts last year.

Ponteras challenged WBA Asia bantamweight champion Yuttapong Tongdee but lost by unanimous decision last August 6 in Bangkok.

Ponteras then went to Tacloban City to face Michael Dasmarinas for the vacant Philippine super bantamweight title last October 15.

The boxing event is promoted by Sanman Boxing Promotion headed by JC Manangquil.
