FORMER title-holder Genisis “Cobra” Libranza of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur is finally back to challenge reigning Philippine flyweight champion Bievenido “Sniper Ben Fairtex” Ligas of Caloocan City on March 30 at the Balon Bayambang Events Center in Bayanbang, Pangasinan.
Libranza lost his Philippine flyweight title after failing to defend it in 2018. He was already concentrating on his campaign in the United States.
Libranza beat Gilberto Mendoza of USA by a unanimous decision on February 9, 2019 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.
He then stopped Carlos Maldonado of USA in the 4th round on July 20, 2019 at the MGM Grand in Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas.
Libranza went home to knock out John Mark Apolinario in the 1st round on February 27, 2021 in General Santos City. He then had a one year hiatus due to a pandemic in 2022.
He started to make a comeback in October 2022 but was inactive again after a month. He resumed training at the Highlands Boxing Gym in Benguet in December.
Libranza, who has 20 wins, 1 loss with 12 knockouts, is still 126 pounds. But Libranza is confident that he can get the 112 pounds a week before the fight.
Libranza, who is now trained by Reynaldo Inocian, is sparring with MJ “Young Gun” Udona (6-1-2, 2KOs) and Bryan “Drunken” Lobitania (14-8-4, 11KOs).
“It's a good fight because we are also well prepared”, said Libranza, who is now managed by Darwin Miller Dep-ay.
Libranza will be in Bayambang three days before the fight.
The boxing event is promoted by Cucuy Elorde of UKC Pro Boxing Edition.
