NATIONAL Master James Infiesto of Davao City was recently appointed as Councilor of the Commission for the Disabled by FIDE at Belgrade's Crown Plaza Hotel in Belgrade, Serbia.

Infiesto, also FIDE International Arbiter, was the playing coach of the Philippine team that finished third place in the FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities last February 4 in Belgrade.

Infiesto has joined three other councilors Robert Gatende of Uganda, Dara Martinez of USA and Jamie Kenmure of Australia.

Thomas Luther of Germany is the chairman while Nikolaos Kolesis of Greece is the secretary.

The Commission plans to organize the Workshop “Equal Opportunitties” and “Sensitivity Seminars.”

Infiesto introduced the “Sensitivity Seminars” with the goal to train persons with special needs and with various forms of disabilities.

The potential plans for 2023 Individual World Chess Championship for PwD were also discussed.

“We also have 17 members but they can’t vote since only the chairman, secretary and councilors can vote,” said Infiesto at the DSA Forum in SM Davao.

Undefeated Poland ruled the tournament with 12 match points for the gold medal followed by IPCA, the international association of chess for people with physical disability, with 10 match points for silver.

The other members of the PH team were ASEAN Para Games gold medalist and Fide Master Sander Severino, Arena Grandmaster National Master Henry Roger Lopez, National Master Darry Bernardo and Cheyzer Mendoza.

Infiesto is now back in Davao for the PARA Games on March 31.
