ZAMBOANGA CITY -- WBO Oriental featherweight champion Eric Canoy of the Blue Stallion Promotions picked himself up from a knockdown, took the fight to Philip Jun Demicillo before two head clashes stopped their non-title fight Friday evening here.

Both fighters came out firing from the opening bell, but Canoy found himself at the receiving end of a big right midway through the round that sent him on the seats of his pants.

The local fighter, however, immediately peeled himself from the canvas and applied pressure on Demicillo to somehow put the latter on the defensive.

A clash of heads cut Canoy on his right eyelid, followed by yet another head clash that also cut Demicillo's forehead.

Referee Bruce "The Brief" McTavish ordered a halt to the fight through the recommendation of the ringside physician during the break to start the second round.

Congressman Erbie Fabian, Canoy's manager, has indicated his ward will defend his title on July 27 in Zamboanga against the very durable Terdsak Jandaeng, who vied for the world title recently.

The event will be promoted by SGG Promotions, Blue Stallion and the Kokiet Group of Thailand.

In the undercard, Roland Castrodes of the Bong Yap Stable looked brilliant in dismantling Dave Cris in just two rounds of their scheduled 8-rounder; Roland Teofilo also of Bong Yap Stable outpointed Marlon Mangubat over 8 rounds.

Noel Adelmita and Winnie Bartiquil figured in a technical draw; Felix Tanamor decisioned John Purisima; Marvin Mabait stopped Jason Binayrao; Richard Donaire decisioned Marlon Canoy; John Rey Gaspar beat Ronnie Pelonia by technical decision in the fifth, and Conrado "Golden Boy" Tanamor decisioned Jonathan Villasis in their highly-explosive showdown.
