
Yap TKOs Doronio in 4th round

VETERAN Mark John “The Journey Man Rebirth” Yap of Cagayan de Oro stopped Leonardo “Toto” Doronio of Nueva Valencia via a technical knockout in the 4th round last night, January 30 at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City.
Yap first downed Doronio earlier in the 4th round with a right cross.
Doronio stood up to fight again and Yap continued to pummel with right and left punches on the head forcing referee Nowel Haduca to stop the fight with 52 seconds remaining.
It was the 49th fight of the 34-year-old Yap, who now has 32 wins with 16 knockouts and17 loses.
Doronio suffered his 21st setback with 18 wins and three draws.
“Thank you Lord for the safety of my fight and especially for my victory,” said Yap.
Meanwhile, Ronnie “Jong Jong” Baldonado scored a unanimous decision against Ben Manangquil to win the vacant Philippine bantamweight title in the main event.
Baldonado, who downed Mananquil once in Round 2, completely dominated the fight in the entire 12 rounds.
The 26-year-old Baldonado improved his record to 16 wins with nine knockouts against four wins and one draw while Managquil suffered his fourth loss against 18 wins and three draws.
