Samal, Tagum win in finals of ALDU Cup

LGU SAMAL and Tagum City beat separate teams in contrasting ways in the finals of the ALDU Cup last January 15 at the Kaputian Gym in the Island Garden City of Samal.

Samal pulled an early lead and never looked back to beat Panabo, 73-61 and win the Inter-Agency Division.

Samal took a 35-26 halftime lead and added 22 points to take a 57-42 spurt in the 3rd quarter.

Phapart Mandreza of Samal scored 20 points and captured the Most Valuable Player award.

Samal received P75,000 while Tagum earned P50,000.

PNP Davao del Norte clobbered PNP Samal, 88-82 to finish third place for P30,000. PNP Samal settled for P20,000.

Tagum, on the other hand, shaded Samal, 105-103 to win the Inter-Barangay Elite Division.

Tagum was trailing in the first three quarters,18-22, 38-52 and 63-80. But Tagum never gave up as it exploded with 28 big points against only 17 by Samal.

Xavier Vincent Laluces, who had 21 points for Tagum won the MVP award.

Carmen defeated Panabo, 95-90 to place third. Carmen and Panabo took P20,000 and P10,000 respectively.

The cash prizes were awarded by ALDU Cup Commissioner Arman Sañano of Davao del Norte Basketball League.
