Jerusalam to get hero’s welcome in Bukidnon

NEWLY crowned World Boxing Organization world minimumweight champion Melvin “Gringo” Jerusalem will get a hero’s welcome in Bukidnon.

Jerusalem, who just arrived in Cebu with trainer Michael Domingo, was from Manolo Fortich of Bukidnon.

The 28-year-old Jerusalem won the WBO world minimumweight title by a 2nd round technical knockout over Masataka Taniguchi of Japan last January 6 at EDION Arena in Osaka.

“I don't know what happened. As long as I rely on everything before training with coach Michael Domingo and more importantly, I rely on the Lord. everything in the game,” said Jerusalem.

Jerusalem will still have to relax in Bukidnon before he makes his next fight, probably the first title defense.

“There is still no date yet in Bukidnon,” said Jerusalem.

He thanked managers Nobuyuki Matsuura and Marivic Matsuura of ZIP while Promoter Jim Claude Manangquil of Sanman.

Meanwhile, Marivic Matsuura said they are proud of Jerusalem and thanked the “big blessing in the beginning of 2023.”

“Your (Jerusalem) hard work paid off, this is it, your dream finally came true. Your Sacho Nobu was so happy to be part of it,” said Matsuura.

She also thanked coach Michael Domingo for training their boxers to develop their natural persistence, determination, discipline, dedication, work ethic, heart and respect.

Matsuura also thanked promoter JC Manangquil of Sanman, Villamor Boxing Gym, stamina conditioning coach Hitoshi Tanaka, One Boxing Gym, together with Kazuma Kitahara, match maker Hiroshi Katsumata and Kameda Promotions,

She also thanked the sponsors ZIP Holdings, Gold II Auto, Estrise, Auto Shop Gold Cat, Wing Futsalu Club, One Boxing Fitness Gym, Kosei Tanaka, Kiyoshi Hatanaka and Katsunari Takayama.
