Sampan fights Tinampay for WBF Int’l superfeather in Tagum

UNDEFEATED Ian Sampan of General Santos City will fight Jason Tinampay of Bohol tomorrow, December 31 for the WBF International super featherweight title at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

Sampan tipped the scales at 128 pounds while Tinampan was 129 lbs.

The 21-year-old Sampan will be fighting for the fourth time this year.

He knocked out Rey Ramos of Rizal in the 3rd round last April 26 at the Sanman Gym in General Santos City.

Sampan then beat Pablito Canada of Pagadian City last July 7 in Polomolok.

He scored a knockout against Joe Tejones of Valencia City in the 2nd round last October 29 at the Lagao Gym in Gensan.

Tinampay, on the other hand, has won two of the three fights he has done so far this year.

In his last fight, Tinampay knocked out Dave Barlas of Gensan in the 4th round last September 9 in Dimiao.

Meanwhile, Mike “Magic” Plania of Gensan will face Jeffrey "Tsunami" Francisco of Palawan in the co-main event.

Plania was 124 lbs. while Francisco tipped a 123 lbs.

The 25-year-old Plania recently lost when he challenged American Ra’eese Aleem by a unanimous decision for the WBO NABO super bantamweight title last September 4 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Francisco, 29, lost by a unanimous decision to Jhunrille Castino of Bohol for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific super bantamweight title last June 26 in Maribojoc.

The boxing event is sponsored by Gov. Edwin Jubahid.

It is promoted by Sanman Boxing Promotion composed of JC Manangquil, John Ray Manangquil and Dexter Tan.
