Rene Mark Cuarto.
FORMER world champion Rene Mark “Mighty Mouse” Cuarto of MP Boxing Gym will fight again after losing in a world title fight last July.

Cuarto, who is based in Davao City, will now face Dexter “Iligan Cement Kidmama” Alimento of Iligan City on December 23 at the Baliok Gym in Baliok, Talomo, Davao City.

They will fight at 108 pounds for 10 rounds.

Cuarto, who is still 117 pounds now, still doesn't have confidence so that’s why he is still 100% training.

“I have learned that I still lack a lot as a boxer so now we are doing our best in training with the trainers to correct the shortcomings and correct the mistakes,” said Cuarto.

The 26-year-old Cuarto previously lost his International Boxing Federation (IBF) World minimumweight title in his second title defense against Daniel “Cejitas” Valladares of Mexico by a split decision on July 1 in Mexico.

Cuarto earlier beat Pedro Taduran in a rematch by a technical decision in a rematch held last February 6 in Digos City.

The fight was stopped due to a cut on Taduran’s forehead caused by an accidental headbutt in Round 6.

Taduran was down once in Round 2 and 6 while Cuarto was deducted two points in Round 3 for an intentional headbutt.

Cuarto, who has 20 wins, three loses, two draws with 11 knockouts, is presently rated no. 3 by the IBF.

He is also ranked no. 7 by the World Boxing Association and no. 9 by the World Boxing Council.

“It's a good game now that I'm 100% done with my training, just wait for my return to the ring,” said Cuarto.

Alimento, on the other hand, has also fought twice this year.

But he lost in both fights. Alimento (13-9-0, 9KO) was stopped in the 9th round TKO by the undefeated Eldin Guinahon of Misamis Oriental last June 24 in Lagonglong.

The 26-year-old Alimento then lost by a 2nd round knockout to Philippine minimumweight champion Joel Lino of Davao City last September 24 in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.

There will also be six supporting bouts.

The boxing event, which will start at 3 p.m., is promoted by Raides “Nonoy” Neri of MP Promotions.
