VINCENT “Asero” Astrolabio of General Santos City is now in the United States to continue his training for his IBF elimination fight against Russian Nikolai Potapov on December 17.
The 25-year-old Astrolabio is with his manager-trainer Raides “Nonoy” Neri of Davao City.
They have been training since November 20 at the Capitello Boxing Gym in Las Vegas.
Astrolabio has been sparring with bantamweight Jonas “Zorro” Sultan of Zamboanga del Norte, bantamweight Esmaider Berrio and featherweight Oscar Eduardo of Columbia.
“This is a big opportunity for me, it’s an IBF eliminator,” said Astrolabio.
Neri said that Astrolabio (14-3-0, 12KOs) is already 122 pounds now.
“Vincent’s condition is OK,” said Neri.
In his last fight, Astrolabio beat former world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux by unanimous decision for the vacant WBC International bantamweight title last February 26 in Dubai. Astrolabio downed The Jackal in Round 8.
Astrolabio also defended for the second time his WBO Oriental bantamweight title by knocking out Wilbert Berondo of Zamboanga del Sur in the 8th round on December 15, 2019 in General Santos City.
Potapov, who has 23 wins, two loses, one draw with 11 knockouts, last fight was in June 2021 with a unanimous decision against Oscar Duge of Tanzania in Moscow.
