JOSE Maria College of Davao City took an early lead and never looked back to beat IBA College of Mindanao from Valencia City, 62-52 in the finals of the LYR Cup Mindanao College Championships last November 27 at the DavNor Sports and Tourism Complex in Tagum City.

The JMC Kings pulled its biggest lead at 15 points in the 3rd quarter.

Christler Catarong topscored with 16 points while Benette Mendiola and Ramlee Lanoy added 12 and 11 respectively.

IBA settled for first runner-up while Ateneo de Davao University and Notre Dame of Midsayap College placed second and third runners-up respectively.

It was the third season of the LYR Cup with 16 participants but the first Mindanao-wide.

“Next year maybe around September to October. But the finals will be around November. We'll announce details around July,” said LYR Groups of Companies Senior Vice President Alex Rubinos, who is also League Commissioner of LYR Basketball Cup.

“The LYR Basketball Cup 2022 is a resounding success!” said the 34-year-old Rubinos.

Rubinos thanked Aldin Celi of Basketball Avenue, Chino Trinidad, PRISAA, Uratex, LGU of DavNor and LYR Group Family.

“We (LYR) hope to bring a higher level of tournament in hopes of inspiring athletes to a higher level of play,” said Rubinos.

LYR is the acronym of Lorenzo Ysulat Rubinos, the chairman and founder of LYR Group of Companies.
