THE Manguray brothers Hero and Nico of Team Alpha scored contrasting wins in the Davao Ultimate Knockout Challenge (DUKC) 2 dubbed as “The Battle” at the Elorde Gym in Matina.
Eighteen-year-old Niko Manguray scored a knockout on Jericho Baccuado of CMMA Aguila Combat Academy with 53 seconds remaining in the second round.
The fight started with both fighters engaging in intense scenery.
In the early 2nd round, Niko connected a left punch to get a standing mandatory 8-count on Baccuada.
The fight resumed as Niko continued to pummel Baccuada with several punches. Niko landed a counter left to send Baccuada to the floor for the knockout. Baccuada was helpless for several minutes as the referee and medical staff applied first aid on him.
Niko was given the Best Knockout award by DUKC founder Alfie Angelo Jonsay.
Hero, 20, on the other hand, used his boxing skills to beat Dave Morata of Panabo City by a unanimous decision.
Hero landed his left and right punches while backpedaling against Morata every time he would try to answer back.
Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) veteran Dr. Angelito Manguray, who is the coach-trainer and manager said the DUKC event was just a sparring since boxing is one aspect of MMA
The two fights were among the special bouts in the DUKC 2.
The Mangurays had their MMA debut fight last August in Valencia City and both of them won.
They will next see action in the Zamboanga del Norte MMA on November 12,
