Tagbilaran City, Bohol – With an amateur boxing experience of over 300 bouts from a tender age of seven to a ripe age of 23, Kit “Piston Punch” Garces, the boxing pride of Talisay City, Cebu, is about to embark on his 5th professional bout versus Ian Donaire of Davao City for the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Australasian flyweight championship to be held on the 5th of next month at the Talisay City Sports Complex in Talisay City, Cebu.

After his pro debut in June of last year, Garces has accumulated an immaculate record of four wins with no defeats and no draws. None of his opponents, thus far, have lasted the distance. His would-be foe, Donaire, has a ring record of 4 wins(3KOs), 1 loss, and 1 draw. Their bout is scheduled for eight rounds.
Garces, who fights under Stags Boxing Promotion of promoter Atty Jigo Dacua and managed by Pocholo Padilla, patterns himself after world champions Naoya Inoue of Japan and Vasiliy Lomachenko of Ukrain. He also follows the ring exploits of compatriots Marlon Tapales, Jerwin Ancajas, and fellow undefeated fighter KJ Cataraja. His father Allen Garces and Fernando Ocon share coaching duties, as they continue to mold their young pugilist at the Prime Fight Championship Boxing Gym in Talisay City, Cebu.

Gifted with a lethal combination of speed, power, and cunning, Kit Ceron Garces has a fighting style strikingly similar to that of Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera. His jabs are crisp and his body punches are heavy. He doesn’t move or hop around a lot like most amateur standouts, which bodes well with his transition into professional boxing, where stamina and pacing are of utmost importance.

Like his boxing idol Vasiliy Lomachenko, who also turned pro rather late, Garces already has a ring maturity and composure akin to a grizzled veteran in the pro ranks. His defensive skills, especially using his hands in blocking, are already excellent, but with a little bit of polishing, he may be able to administer punishment while also avoiding some in return.
Garces has a reliable chin, but it could be a different story, as he faces better foes in his pursuit to become a world champion. He is not deterred, nonetheless, as he is also willing to absorb some in order to deliver his own punches that resemble the movement of a piston – accurate and precise, yet disciplined to return to its defensive position after delivering every blow… thus, the moniker “Piston Punch”.
