In this limited 30-part series, we shall be discussing each team’s latest developments, current roster, and future prospects in the upcoming 2022-2023 NBA season. For every team, we will examine bit-by-bit the important aspects that may shape its progress and provide a rough projection of how it will fare vis-à-vis its previous year’s performance and versus the rest of the league.

Headliners:

Luka Doncic is expected to run away with the MVP trophy next year. Always a triple-double threat, Doncic normed 28.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 8.7 assists, and 1.2 steals on a nightly basis this past season. He’s even expected to improve on that already impressive performance this time around. While former backcourt tandem Jalen Brunson is no longer with the team, Spencer Dinwiddie should pick up the slack and fill the shoes left by Brunson.

Dallas head coach Jason Kidd puts a premium on defense and Dinwiddie is a bigger guard with solid defensive instincts that should fit in nicely with Kidd’s philosophy. His numbers last season weren’t shabby, either. He averaged 15.8 markers, 3.1 boards, and 3.9 steals for Dallas, while shooting 49.8% from the field, including 40.4% from deep. Those numbers are expected to improve with an expanded role, as Doncic’s primary running mate.

Entering the final year of his three-year $41 million guaranteed contract that he signed with his former team Houston Rockets, Christian Wood will reportedly begin his tenure in Dallas with a bench role. JaVale McGee is expected to start at center as the season unfolds. It remains to be seen whether or not Wood supplants him later in the season.

The Dallas Mavericks underwent a lot of facelifts last season. With a chance to go full strength at training camp and with Doncic leading the way, Jason Kidd’s wards should be considered as serious title contenders right at the onset.
