In this limited 30-part series, we shall be discussing each team’s latest developments, current roster, and future prospects in the upcoming 2022-2023 NBA season. For every team, we will examine bit-by-bit the important aspects that may shape its progress and provide a rough projection of how it will fare vis-à-vis its previous year’s performance and versus the rest of the league.

Headliners:
Big man Joel Embiid was the runner-up for last season’s MVP plum, averaging career bests in scoring, assists, steals, and, in his case the most important stat of all, games played. He had a serious case for the MVP award, averaging 30.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.1 steals in 68 regular season games. If he stays healthy, he’s expected to norm the same kind of production this upcoming season, as the Sixers’ focal point on the offensive end.
Former league MVP James Harden has expressed his willingness to defer and act as primary facilitator and playmaker. In his first stint as a Sixer after being traded from Brooklyn, he averaged career lows in shooting accuracy both from the field and from beyond the arc at 40.2% and 32.6%, respectively. His scoring, at only 21.0 points, was also at its lowest in ten years, while his turnover numbers were at its lowest in the same period.
It isn’t farfetched to expect Harden to bounce back from a relatively less-productive season, especially with the chance to be better acquainted with the team plays and the players around him this time around. He’ll also have to learn to co-exist with Embiid and emerging guard Tyrese Maxey, who blossomed last season with impressive numbers with considerably solid efficiency and accuracy.
Maxey could pick up where he left off and possibly even improve on his 17.5 markers on a 48.5% field goal shooting, including an impressive 42.7% from deep, to go along with 3.2 boards and 4.3 dimes, while only committing 1.2 turnovers on a nightly basis.
Tobias Harris and P.J. Tucker should continue to start at both forward positions, providing the steady veteran presence that the Sixers may need on both ends of the court.
Sixers head coach Doc Rivers will have his hands full, trying to work his magic in this rather deep lineup, as expectations are high for these Philadelphia 76ers. Will they be able to finally meet them or once again fail to do so? We will soon find out.
