PHILIPPINE flyweight champion Bienvenido “Sniper Ben Fairtex” Ligas of Caloocan City will defend his title against Roland Jay “The Bull” Biendima of General Santos City on March 12 at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Paranaque City.
It will be the first title defense of Ligas, who won the crown over Alphoe Dagayloan of Dipolog by unanimous decision last February 13, 2021 in Norte Paniqui.
“Okay na po ako nasa saktong timbang na po ako,” said Ligas.
Ligas' sparring partner was OPBF flyweight champion Giemel "Pistolero" Magramo (26-2-0, 20KOs). After winning the title, Ligas had two fights in the same year.
Ligas first settled a majority draw with Miel Fajardo of Agusan del Sur last July 3, 2021 in Urdaneta City.
He then lost by a split decision to April Jay Abne for the vacant Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation Silver flyweight title last October 30 in Talisay City.
“Masasabi ko po sa kalaban ko, hindi po basta bastang boxer, isa din po itong veterano at mas experyensado po kesa sakin,” said Ligas.
Biendima (15-10-1, 8KOs), on the other hand, recently lost to former WBO Oriental super flyweight champion Aston Palicte of Bago City by a unanimous decision last October 29 at the Sanman Gym in Gensan.
The Ligas-Biendima 12-round title fight is one of the three main events in the “Tiger 2022: Ultimate Knockout Challenge”.
Robert Hill of VSP Boxing and Cucuy Elorde of UKC Pro Boxing Edition are the promoters.
