Adrian Lerasan.
SOUTHPAW Adrian “Wild Beast” Lerasan of Antipolo City will again be in Thailand to challenge World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council Super flyweight champion Phongsaphon Panyakum in Bangkok.

Lerasan will finally leave with his trainer Richard Garcia on February 19 for Bangkok.

“Mamaya last sparring ko. Dadayo si Baldonado dito sa Mandaluyong El Tigre Gym,” said the 23-year-old Lerasan.

Lerasan sparred with bantamweight Ronnie Baldonado (15-2-1, 9KOs) last February 16.

“Yung mga kasamahan ko dito sa El Tigre Gym mga nakaka sparring ko. Naka sparring na ako ng dalawang 10 rounds,” said Lerasan.

Lerasan also went to the MP Highland Boxing Gym to spar with Miel “Silent Assassin” Fajardo (7-1-2, 6KOs) and Mark John Yap (30-15-9, 15KOs), who is also scheduled to fight in Dubai on February 26. Lerasan is already 126 pounds now.

“Handang handa na ako sa laban,” he said.

Panyakum, on the other hand, has 12 wins with six knockouts against one defeat.

“Magaling din siya, di dapat ako mag kumpiyansa. Basta gagawin ko pa rin and best ko para manalo ako sa laban,” said Lerasa.

Lerasan has won twice already in Thailand since 2020. He first scored a technical knockout over Thailand’s Tanes Ongiunta for the vacant World Boxing Association Asia Super flyweight title last March 1, 2020 at Suamlum Night Bazaar in Ratchadaphisek, Bangkok.

Lerasan then came back to Bangkok last year to knock out Suradech Ruhasiri in the 5th round for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Asian Boxing Council Continental super flyweight title.

But it was not that easy the second time around. The fight was postponed twice due to the pandemic. Lerasan was alone in Thailand without his coach Garcia, who was left in the Philippines because he was found positive of COVID-19.

Lerasan was lucky to find a Thai coach-trainer Supanat Chanram from the Highland Boxing Gym Thailand, who took over his temporary task.

"Boxing is like chess. It's also mathematical problem solving, while you're taking punches and throwing punches,” said the 23-year-old Lerasan.

It will be the second title defense of Panyakum (12-1-0, 6KOs).

He retained his title by a unanimous decision over Karoon Jarupianlerd of Thailand last March 13, 2021 at Workpoint Studio in Bang Phun.

The 21-year-old Panyakum took away the title by knocking out Suriyan Satorn in the 4th round last December 5, 2020 at Workpoint Studio.

The boxing event is promoted by Surachart Phisitvuthinun of Nakornluang Boxing Promotion.
