Rigondeaux and Casimero Make Weight

CARSON, CA -- At noon today, August 13, 2021 (PST) Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) and the TGB Promotions held the official weigh-in for the block buster fight card scheduled tomorrow at the Dignity Health Sports Center at Carson, California.

The main event fighters, Cuba’s Guillermo Rigondeaux and the Philippines’ John Riel Casimero easily made weight. The Cuban spitfire came in at 117.5 lbs while the Filipino boaster hit the scale on the nose at 118 lbs.

As they say in the dark business called boxing: “We have a fight”.

Two-division world champion Rigondeaux will engage Casimero for his WBO Bantamweight belt. The event will be shown live on ShowTime beginning at 7PM EST or 10PM PST.

Rigondeaux originally was set to fight Casimero but that was scrapped in favor of one that would have involved a very intriguing all-Filipino unification fight between Nonito Donaire Jr and Casimero. However, that fight was cancelled when Donaire walked off that fight allegedly because Casimero, in a pre fight hype, disrespected Rachel Donaire, the wife of Nonito. Therefore, Rigondeaux-Casimero title fight was re-scheduled.

Hopefully, whoever wins the fight tomorrow will eventually fight a unification with Nonito Donaire, Jr. A Rigondeaux-Donaire rematch will be exciting but it will be nothing compared to a “personal war” between Donaire and Casimero. It will be a great time to see if Casimero can back up his boast and what would Donaire do to defend his wife’s honor.
