Bernaldez stops Kanton in the 7th round

DAVAO CITY – Super featherweight Mark “Machete” Bernaldez of Gen. Santos City stopped Juan "Loquito" Kantun of Mexico in the 7th round yesterday, July 9, at the Airport Hilton in Miami, Florida.

It was the second win this year by Bernaldez to improved his record to 23 wins with 17 knockouts against four losses. Kantun suffered his 12th loss against 21 wins with three draws.

Bernaldez, earlier scored a TKO in the 6th round against Hector Ruben Ambriz Suarez of Mexico last March 26 at the Media Pro Studios in Medley.

“Thank you Lord for my safety and victory,” said Bernaldez on Facebook.

He also thanked his promoter Laura Ching, coach-manager Osmiri Fernandez and manager Jim Claude Manangquil.

Meanwhile, undefeated Frank Diaz scored a 1st round technical knockout on Philip Adyaka to win the vacant American Boxing Federation Atlantic Super featherweight title.
