
Claveras to fight Araneta in Talisay July 16

DAVAO CITY – Former OPBF Silver flyweight champion Richard “Explosive” Claveras of Silay City will fight Christian “The Bomb” Araneta of Cebu on July 16 at the Tabunoc Sports Complex in Talisay City, Cebu.
Claveras (19W-7L-2D, 16KOs) recently knocked out Richard Rosales of Bohol in the 6th round last Feb. 15, 2020 at the Manila Arena in Manila.
“Isang buwan din ako nag-training (I also trained for a month),” said the 33-year-old Claveras.
Claveras, who will fly to Cebu at 11:30 p.m. Friday, will later join former WBA world minimumweight champion Joma Gamboa, who is now his coach.
The fighting weight will be at 111 lbs. with a 10 round distance.
Claveras, who is also a former World Boxing Council International Light flyweight champion, still weighs 114 lbs.
“Magaling din kalaban ko, enjoy na lang namin laban (My opponent is also good, we just enjoy the fight),” said Claveras.
“Wala ako masabi bastat gawin ko lahat para manalo sa laban (I have nothing to say as long as I do everything to win the battle),” added Claveras.
Araneta (19W-2L-0D, 15KOs), on the other hand, recently lost to undefeated Sivenathi Nontshinga of South Africa by a unanimous decision for the IBF International light flyweight title last April 24, 2021 at the Boardwalk Casino in Gqeberha.
The 26-year-old Araneta earlier knocked out Roland Jay Biendima in the 1st round last Dec. 18, 2020 in Mandaue City.
It is one of the supporting bouts of the battle between Melvin “Gringo” Jerusalem of Bukidnon and Toto “Muscovado” Landero of Negros Occidental for the vacant OPBF minimimweight title.
Jim Claude Manangquil of Sanman Promotions and ZIP Boxing are promoting the event.
