Bernaldez to fight Kantun in Miami

DAVAO CITY – Super featherweight Mark “Machete” Bernaldez of Gen. Santos City will fight Juan "Loquito" Kantun of Mexico on July 9 at the Airport Hilton in Miami, Florida.

Bernaldez tipped the scales at 129 lbs. while Kantun scaled at 131 lbs.

The 27-year-old Bernaldez (22W-4L-0D, 16KOs) will be making his 7th outing in the US since 2019.

In his last fight, Bernaldez scored a TKO in the 6th round against Hector Ruben Ambriz Suarez of Mexico on March 26 at the Media Pro Studios in Medley.

Bernaldez earlier stopped Julian Evaristo Aristule of Argentina in the 3rd round on Oct. 17, 2020 in Miami.

Kantun (21W-11L-3D, 15KOs), on the other hand, lost by a unanimous decision to undefeated Jayvon Garnett last March 27, 2021 at the Cosmopolitan Lounge in Decatur.

Meanwhile, undefeated Serik Musadilov (9W-0L) will fight Lamont Capers (10W-14L-5D) for the vacant NABA cruiserweight title in the main event.

Laura Ching of M&R Boxing Promotions is promoting the event while the matchmaker is Melvin Rivas.
