DAVAO CITY – Super bantamweight Jhunriel “Prinsipe Abante” Ramonal of Biñan, Laguna suffered a 5th round technical decision loss to Landy Cris Leon yesterday, July 3, at the Urdaneta Cultural Sports Complex in Urdaneta City.
The 32-year-old Ramonal got a big cut on the upper right eye. The blood was constantly bleeding so the referee stopped the fight.
“Puro head butt ang inabot (It’s all head butt),” said Ramonal’s manager-trainer Dino Olivetti.
“Ang tagal na namin di nakakalaban kaya nilaban ko na (We haven't been able to fight for a long time, so I've decided to take the fight),” added Olivetti.
Ramonal has now nine losses against 17 wins with 10 knockouts and six draws while Leon improved to 14 wins against 22 loses and five draws.
Ramonal was supposed to go to Japan and fight but it didn't work out because of the pandemic. He won the vacant WBO Asia Pacific super bantamweight title by knocking out Yusaku Kuga of Japan at the Ota-City General Gym last Dec. 31, 2019.
It was a supporting bout in the “Relentless: Fists of Fire” event.
Meanwhile, flyweight Bienvenido Ligas (13W-1L-2D, 9KOs) of Caloocan, settled with a majority draw against Miel Fajardo (7W-1L-2D, 6KOs) in the main supporting bout.
Judges Sammy Bernabe Sr. and Nowel Haduca both scored the fight at 76-all while Judge Oliver Garcia saw it 77-75 in favor of Fajardo.
The other bouts: Jon Jon “Wolvarine” Estrada (12W-8L-1D, 11KOs) made an easy job by stopping comebacking Rex “Igorot Warrior” Wao (11W-5L-0D, 9KOs) in the 1st round;
Lorenz Ladrada (10W-1L-1D, 3KOs) scored a unanimous decision over Claudevan Sese (7W-3L-3D, 1KO);
Jino Rodrigo (6W-2L-2D, 4KOs) won by UD over Roberto Gonzales (28W-7L-1D, 17KOs); Arnel Baconaje (13W-4L-0D, 11KOs) stopped Ivor Lastrilla (12W-11L-1D, 7KOs) in the 2nd round; Cris Ganoza (19W-3L-0D, 9KOs) won by a UD over Junuel Lacar (8W-8L-3D, 6KOs); Ranelio Quizo (8W-2L-0D, 1KO) beat Joseph Bayubay (4W-2L-2D, 2KOs); Jonniel Laurente (1W-0L-0D) won over Jeric Wayne Canawil (0W-IL).
