DAVAO CITY – The VSP Boxing Gym is set to do sports projects and will build up a velodrome based in Vietnam.
This was revealed by Robert Hill of VSP Boxing Gym in an interview on Facebook.
VSP is a Vietnam Sports Platform owned by Hill of Australia and Lim Song of South Korea.
“We set up to do sport's projects in Vietnam including boxing,” said Hill.
“Our main project is to develop a velodrome there for cycling and motorcycle racing,” added Hill. It is a $400-million-dollar project.
“Boxing is my hobby and passion. I built a gym in Vietnam so we could start boxing,” said Hill.
“Before there was no pro boxing in Vietnam so it was illegal.
But now it is legal already,” he said.
The last boxing that Hill did was in October 2019. It was called the Victory 8 "Legends of Hoan Kiem" featuring super featherweight Charly “King’s Warrior” Suarez of San Isidro, Davao del Norte.
Some 25,000 people watched the event held in Ho Chi Minh City.
The 32-year-old Suarez (6W-0L-0D, 5KOs) will fight again this time against Eduardo “The Nightmare” Mancito (6W-0L-0D, 5KOs) of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental in the “Relentless: Fists of Fire” set on June 3 at the Urdaneta Cultural Sports Complex in Urdaneta City.
The fights can still be seen in the Facebook although Hill will not be in Urdaneta since he is still in Sydney, Australia because of a lockdown.
“Urdaneta is the closest place we could get approval from
Manila and surrounding areas were not possible for July 3,” said Hill.
The boxers and trainers are already in a quarantine in Urdaneta. They are free of food and accommodation.
“Yes I paid a lot together with Ma'm Cucuy Elorde, who is a friend and partner,” said Hill.
Hill used to have former Women’s International Boxing Association and Global Boxing Union female world minimum champion Gretchen “Chen Chen” Abaniel (18W-11L-0D, 6KOs) of Puerto Princesa.
“Gretchen is now in Australia and she’s got a little kid, almost one year-old,” said Hill.
“Most managers work hard on avoiding fights. They all think they have world champions!,” said Hill.
Meanwhile, Hill has slowed down on the velodrome project.
“COVID has slowed us up!,” said Hill.
