SPORTS SHORTS 121: MANNY PACQUIAO IS THE THIRD RICHEST BOXER NEXT TO FLOYD MAYWEATHER AND GEORGE FOREMAN

Manny Pacquiao is the third richest boxer at present. His net worth is approximately $220 million or roughly P11 billion according to the website richest.com.

Pacquiao is considered as one of the greatest boxers of all time being the only eight-division world champion in boxing history and won twelve major world titles.

He was the first boxer to win the lineal championship in five different weight divisions and the first boxer to win major world titles in four of the eight "glamour divisions", namely flyweight, featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight.

Pacquiao is the only boxer to hold world titles over four decades: 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s.

His fight against Floyd Mayweather in May 2015 broke every money record in boxing history, including 4.6 million PPV buys and total revenue of $600 million from PPV, tickets, international TV, sponsorships and other revenues. Pacquiao earned $120 million for the fight with Mayweather harvesting twice as huge amount.

This is a far cry from the $20 prize Pacquiao received for his first pro fight, according to ESPN’s Dan Rafael. In Pacquiao’s first U.S. bout in 2001 against Lehlohonolo Ledwaba, he reportedly received only $40,000.

The top 10 richest boxers at present has Floyd Mayweather Jr. at No. 1. He retired undefeated at 50-0 and true to his nickname "Money" his net worth stands at a shocking $450 million in 2021. Many fans and scribes considered him the pound-for-pound greatest in the history of boxing.

He also manages his own promotional company Mayweather Promotions and has several endorsements and sponsorship deals, which endowed him with a large source of income.

His investments also form a big part of his earnings. The former pound-for-pound king has wisely invested in numerous ventures and draws long term earnings. Mayweather also gives advices on investing in stocks and real-estate.

At No. 2 is George Foreman who has a career that lasted almost three decades. Now the George Foreman Grill has sold over 100 million units. The two-time heavyweight champion has $300million in the bank. He has earned substantially in business endorsements more than he earned as a boxer.

After the No. 3 Pacquiao is Oscar De La Hoya at No. 4. He was 1992 Barcelona Olympic gold medalist in the lightweight class thus the moniker "Golden Boy". He has built his business empire both as a fighter and as a promoter. The retired De La Hoya doesn't have to fight again because of his $200million net worth.

At No. 5 is Lennox Lewis is the last heavyweight to hold the undisputed championship. He represented Canada as an amateur at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, winning a gold medal in the super-heavyweight division. "The Lion" Lewis is having a $140million fortune after 14 years of dominating the heavyweight division.

Sugar Ray Leonard is next at No. 6. He had a spectacular professional career of almost two decades in boxing. Leonard was part of "The Fabulous Four" and fought in the middleweight, light middleweight, super middleweight and heavyweight division, winning world titles in five weight divisions. He has a $120million net worth.

Vitali Klitschko at No. 7 is the only world heavyweight champion to have never been knocked down. He and Foreman are the only heavyweight boxers to defend a world title after turning 40. He holds a PhD degree and was nicknamed "Dr. Ironfist". He currently serves as Mayor of Kyiv, Ukraine and has a net worth of around $80million.

No. 8 is Anthony Joshua, the 2012 London Olympic gold medalist has a wealth of approximately $60million right now. He is a two-time unified world heavyweight champion. In 2017, his victorious fight against Wladimir Klitschko was named Fight of the Year by The Ring and the Boxing Writers Association of America.

No. 9 is Tyson Fury, a two-time world heavyweight champion, having held the WBC and Ring magazine titles since defeating Deontay Wilder in 2020. He previously he held the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring titles after defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015. Currently, "The Gypsy King" holds approximately a $30million net worth.

Anthony Mundine is No. 10. The rugby league player turned boxer held the WBA super-middleweight championship for an incredible five years from 2003 to 2008. He won the IBO middleweight title in 2009. Mundine is currently enjoying an amazing $30million fortune.

Lennox Lewis of Canada won the gold medals in the 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Olympics in the super heavyweight class. He became professional world champion winning the WBC heavyweight (1992-1994), WBC heavyweight (1997-1999), IBF, WBA & WBC heavyweight (1999-2000), IBF & WBC heavyweight (2000-2001), IBF & WBC heavyweight (2001-2002) and WBC heavyweight (2002-2004) titles.

Henry Maske of Germany won the gold medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics in the middleweight class. He became professional world champion winning the IBF light heavyweight title (1993-1996).

Giannis Antetokounmpo sank 49 points to outgun Kevin Durant with 42 and raised the Milwaukee Bucks to a crucial 117-114 victory over the visiting Brooklyn Nets. The game was decided in the final seconds and it was considered by many as a possible Eastern Conference finals preview.

Durant hit 16-of-33 from the field and pulled 10 rebounds, handed two assists and grabbed a steal to add to his high scoring. Antetokounmpo was 21-for-36 from the field, connecting 4-of-8 from 3 point range.
