DAVAO CITY – The title defense of reigning Philippine super bantamweight champion Mark Anthony “El Heneral” Geraldo of Bukidnon against undefeated Carl Jammes “Wonder Boy” Martin of Ifugao on May 1 in Laguna was postponed due to the present ECQ situation.
“Na move sa May 15 (It's move to May 15),” said lady boxing promoter Yolly Alfante of Shock Punch Boxing Promotion.
It will be second title defense of Geraldo (38W-9L-3D, 19KOs).
“Postpone. Naka ready na mi tanan. Ang problema extended pa pod ang ECQ till the end of April (Postpone we are all ready. The problem was extended by the ECQ till the end of April),” said Alfante.
“Mga boxers natin ay walang jogging at sparring dahil bawal lumabas. Sobra sa ka strikto (Our boxers do not have jogging and sparring because it is forbidden to go out. Too strict),” said Alfante.
The 29-year-old Geraldo earned the vacant title by knocking out Virgel Vitor of Bohol in the 6th round last Feb. 11, 2019 in Tagbilaran City.
Geraldo retained his title by stopping Lorence Rosas of Palawan in the 8th round on Sept. 20, 2019 in Mandaluyong City.
Geraldo, earlier lost to Nordine Oubaali of France for the WBC Silver bantamweight title on Dec. 16, 2017 in France.
Geraldo, who is also a former WBO Asia Pacific Youth super flyweight champion, did not saw action last year due to pandemic.
Martin (17W-0L, 15KOs), on the other hand, knocked out Joe Tejones of Bukidnon in the 5th round on Feb. 20, 2021 in Binan City. The 21-year-old Martin earlier beat Richard Rosales of Bohol by a unanimous decision on Dec. 18, 2020 at the IPI Compound in Mandaue City. He also retained his Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight title by halting Philip Luis Cuerdo of Paranaque on Dec. 21, 2019 at Manila Arena.
