Michael Dasmariñas will challenge Naoya Inoue for the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation bantamweight titles in Las Vegas on June 19.
* * *
His encounter with The Ring pound-for-pound rated No. 2 Inoue will be Dasmariñas' biggest match, and he was not able to challenge yet for a world title in the four major boxing bodies, WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF.
* * *
Dethroning Inoue is a tall order considering his unblemished career record of 20 wins with no loss and 17 knockout victories, including wins against 4 Filipinos: Nonito Donaire by unanimous decision in 2019, Warlito Parrenas by 2nd round TKO in 2015, Jerson Mancio by 5th round TKO in 2013, and Crison Omayao 4th round KO in 2012.
* * *
Inoue's latest victory was an impressive seventh-round knockout over Australian Jason Moloney in October last year after his unanimous decision win over former four-division world champion Donaire in November 2019.
* * *
While Inoue is active, Dasmariñas has not fought since his match with Artid Bamrungauea of Thailand in October 2019, winning by a technical knockout in the fifth round improving his record to 30-2-1 (20 KOs).
* * *
Dasmariñas, age 28 years of Pili, Camarines Sur, has won 12 of his last 13 fights. Alias "Hot and Spicy" is a southpaw has fought 179 rounds with a KOs rate of 60.61%. While "Monster" is age 28 years of Zama, Kanagawa, Japan, an orthodox fighter who fought 114 rounds with a KO rate of 85%.
* * *
The Inoue-Dasmariñas match was originally scheduled to happen in Japan but had to be transferred to the United States due to Covid-19 restrictions in the country.
* * *
Dasmariñas turned professional at age 19 years. He has learned the basics of boxing since he was a small child, and was trained by his cousin. He was told he wouldn't be successful as a boxer, because of his frail frame.
* * *
He made his professional debut as a light flyweight in January 2012, winning a unanimous decision over Wilmar Pragata on his debut. He returned as a flyweight just a month later against Jimmy Viceda and scored his first stoppage. Just 8 days later he had another TKO win over Gerry Patenio.
* * *
After 3 wins Dasmariñas suffered his first defeat on April 2012 at the hands of the heavy punching Marbon Bodiongan, who stopped him in 2 rounds. The loss would not discourage him as he notched 5 wins before the end of 2012.
* * *
The next year he got 6 more wins, with 4 stoppages and two 10 round unanimous decisions, showing he could last the 10 round distance with convincing wins.
* * *
He flew to Tokyo to battle former South Korean super flyweight champion Hayato Kimura for his first fight abroad. The fans witnessed him dominated Kimura to score a clear verdict over the Japanese fighter.
* * *
The win was followed by another victory at home, against Oscar Raknafa, before Dasmariñas got a chance for his second bout outside of the Philippines. This time it would be in South Africa against against Lwandile Sityatha for the IBO super flyweight title.
* * *
But unfortunately, Dasmariñas became one of the many Filipino fighters to suffer a loss in South Africa by hometown decision, with Sityatha gaining a very controversial split decision win. The loss was his second, but could have been a win if the judges performed well.
* * *
Then he knocked out Aroel Romasasa in 51 seconds then stopped Roy Lagrada in the 4th round before winning unanimously against the then unbeaten Jhaleel Payao for the WBC youth super flyweight title, the first in Dasmariñas' career.
* * *
He would later defend that title in China, stopping Wisanlek Sithsaithong in the first round to end the year 2015 as a champion.
* * *
In 2016 Dasmariñas claimed his second title, the PBF bantamweight title. He first won the PBF interim title, when he stopped Edison Berwela in March before grabbing the full title a month later with a win over Jecker Buhawe by 4th round TKO. He defeated Michael Escobia in September by unanimous decision.
* * *
Dasmariñas took an 11 month break before returning in August 2017 to face Mateo Handig, whom he stopped in 8 rounds. Then he went to Singapore to overwhelm Thai Phupha Por Nobnom in 2 rounds. He was signed a multi-year deal with Singapore's Ringstar promotions.
* * *
Dasmariñas knocked out Frenchman Karim Guerfi in the fourth round in their IBO bantamweight title fight in Singapore on April 20, 2018. He sent Guerfi flat on his back with a cracking left hook to the jaw just 40 seconds into the fourth round.
* * *
He settled for a split draw against Manyo Plange of Ghana, Saturday night at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on September 29, 2018.
* * *
Dasmariñas then outpointed compatriot Kenny Demecillo by unanimous decision to become the mandatory challenger for the IBF bantamweight title in the main event of Rising Stars at Resorts World Manila on March 24, 2019. Thus the fight with Naoya Inoue on June 19.

Jayson Tatum scored a 53-point night on Friday, making him the youngest player in the Boston Celtics' history to score 50 in a single game, per StatMuse. He's also the first Celtics player since Larry Bird to score as many as 53 according to the NBA.
* * *
Tatum scored on 16-of-25 shooting (6-of-10 for 3-points) with 10 rebounds and four assists, leading the Celtics to a 145-136 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in overtime. The All-Star is now averaging 25.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for the Celtics.
