DAVAO CITY – Undefeated Mark “Thunder” Vicelles of Sultan Kudarat will fight former Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight champion Arnold “Destroyer” Garde of President Roxas on March 27 at the IPI Compound in Mandaue City.
It will be the first of a series of bubble boxing events this year by the Omega Sports Promotion.
Vicelles (12W-0L-1D, 6KOs), who is from Omega Sports Gym, saw action last year with a knockout win over Junuel Lacar of Gen. Santos City in the 4th round on Oct. 7 at IPI Compound.
He earlier settled a technical decision to Robert Onggocan of Zamboanga to win the vacant Visayas Professional Boxing Association light flyweight title last April 5, 2019 in Mandaue.
Vicelles also beat former WBO Oriental light flyweight champion Jesse Espinas last July 6, 2019 in Liloan.
But this time, the 25-year-old Vicelles will be fighting a more credible and experienced fighter.
Garde, 30 (10W-10L-3D, 4KOs) has fought against Tibo Monabesa of Indonesia to a technical draw for the WBC International Silver light flyweight title last May 20, 2017 in Jakarta.
He lost by a unanimous decision to Randy Petalcorin from Gen. Santos City for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific light flyweight title last Dec. 4, 2016 in Gensan.
Garde then lost by knockout to Jonathan Taconing for the WBC International light flyweight title last Oct. 15, 2017 in Paranaque City.
Garde came back with unanimous decision victory against Aries Buenavidez of Davao to win the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation flyweight title last June 29, 2018 in Maco.
But Garde lost again for the PBF flyweight title to Renz Rosia last June 28, 2019 in Maco. He again bowed to Jerven Mama of Gensan by a unanimous decision last Feb. 29, 2020 in Lagao Gym in Gensan.
