DAVAO CITY – Orthodox Rene Mark Cuarto (18W-2L-2D, 11KOs) of Zamboanga del Norte has been training since October for a possible fight. His training was not in vain as he will now face compatriot International Boxing Federation (IBF) world minimumweight champion Pedro “Kid Pedro Heneral” Taduran (14W-2L-1D, 11KOs) on Feb. 20, 2021 at the Lagao Gym in Gen. Santos City.

Cuarto earned the right for being the no. 3 ranked as nobody is presently in the no. 1 and 2 contenders.

“Ok lang ko sa karon padayon gihapon among training ni Coach Nonoy Neri (I'm ok for now we are still training with Coach Nonoy Neri)," said Cuarto.

He said that they further added their practice with sparring mates Genesis “Cobra” Libranza (19W-1L-1D, 11KOs) and Reymark Ibones (4W-0L-2D, 2KOs).

Cuarto said that he is really very excited that he will be fighting also under the bubble boxing event. He said he is still 120 lbs. but he will get 105 lbs. soon.

“Dako jud kog pasalamat kay Sen. Manny nga iyaha kung gihatagan og chance nga maka dula og world championship nga dugay na nakong pangandoy (I would like to thank Sen. Manny for giving me the chance to play in the world championship that I have long dreamed of)," said Cuarto.

He has started the year with a regular jogging and practice at the MP Boxing Gym in Davao last Jan. 1.
