MALUNGON, Sarangani – Senator Manny Pacquiao on Friday challenged the communist rebels to promote unity and love instead of fomenting hate and violence.
Pacquiao, who was invited as the guest of honor, hurled the challenged to the CPP-NPA guerillas in his speech delivered during the 14th founding anniversary celebration of the Army’s 1002nd Infantry Brigade in Pulatana, Malandag village in this town.
The affair was attended by the local government officials in the province, military officials and personnel, including some businessmen.
Col. Potenciano Camba, 1002nd Brigade commander, thanked Pacquiao for coming over and for being supportive to the leadership and programs of the 1002nd Brigade.
“To advance our cause, I think there’s no need for us to kill each other. Instead, let us love each other and help each other. I believe that unity will lead us to victory,” Pacquiao said.
The senator from Mindanao reminded the communist revolutionaries that rebelling against the established authority is rebelling against God.
The boxer-lawmaker stressed that we should endeavor to set our hearts free from the yoke of hatred.
He revealed that he was so saddened by the suicide bombing in Jolo which claimed several lives and injured many others.
“Let us nurture love in our hearts instead of hatred. I could not imagine the pain and agony now gripping the hearts of the grieving families whose loved ones perished during the suicide bombing in Jolo,” he said.
According to him, he is praying and hoping that this kind of grim incident would be prevented in the future.
He promised to bring more development projects not just in his home province but also in other parts of the country.
“When I ran for public office, I pledged to bring the development to our province. Now you see that our main highway was already concreted from coast-to-coast. Right now, more farm-to-market roads are being constructed – some are even being concreted – to expedite the transport of farm products going to the marketplace,” he said.
He, however, emphasized his focus is not only for Sarangani but including other areas in the country.
