Fred, Alexandra Sydney earn, AGM, AIM title

The FIDE (World Chess Federation) Online Arena has conferred the Arena Grandmaster (AGM) title and Arena International Master (AIM) title to Dr. Alfredo “Fred” Paez and his daughter Alexandra Sydney Paez, playing under the leadership of Cabuyao City, mayor Atty. Rommel A. Gecolea.

Fondly called “Fred” in the chess world, the former mainstay of multi-titled National University chess team and president of the Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA) earned his Arena Grandmaster (AGM) title after breaking the 2000 barrier.

Alexandra Sydney, on the other hand wants to win more Arena online games rated tournaments of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to follow the footsteps of his father AGM dentist Alfredo “Fred” Paez.

The 16 years old Alexandra Sydney is incoming Grade 10 student of San Beda College Alabang.

Meanwhile, Dubai-based Filipino Casto “Toti” Abundo of the Asian Chess Federation announced the staging of the Asian Juniors and Girls Online Chess Championships on May 27 to June 4.
$4,500 in cash prizes up for grabs with the top three juniors players will receiving $1,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively while the top three winners in the girls side will getting $750, $500 and $250.-Marlon Bernardino-
