CHICAGO -- At 7-foot-4 and 290 pounds, Boban Marjanovic of the Dallas Mavericks appears to be super intimidating, but he turned out to be all friendly when we caught up with him last Wednesday at the United Center.

Even with his team losing a thrilling cliffhanger at the hands of the Chicago Bulls, the 31-year old Serbian, a four-year NBA veteran, stopped by to answer our queries.

PhilBoxing.com: You were down a couple possessions late and nearly pulled it off, can you talk about that?

Boban Marjanovic: You know, it’s good because we fight back and have that will to win, but it’s not good because we lost our lead at the beginning, I think in the third quarter. It was so perfect, so good, but after that, we lost our focus.

I also think guys were tired because we played back-to-back and we had to get up quickly to win a game...Sometimes you need luck in sports and I hope the next game will be much better because we need a win.

PhilBoxing.com: This past summer, in the FIBA tournament, you played the Gilas, the Philippine national team and you beat them pretty well. What was it like playing against that team?

Boban Marjanovic: It’s nice because we shared the meal room every single time and saw these guys every time. It was nice to be around them and have focused conversations. We played table tennis there and it was fun to be there and share the room with these guys and share the court with them in great spirits.

PhilBoxing.com: Do you remember any specific Filipino players that caused you guys trouble?

Boban Marjanovic: Everyone played amazing, I cannot mention the names so far, but the guys were shooting and running, and it was great what they were doing.

PhilBoxing.com: Can you greet your fans in the Philippines?

Boban Marjanovic: I love you guys. Thank you for cheering for me, for us...and a lot of kisses!

PhilBoxing.com: You starred in the John Wick III movie, how was that like? And do you see yourself starring in anything this upcoming summer?

Boban Marjonic: I don’t know, we’ll see. Now we focus on basketball and we’ll see what happens. It was a good role, good job. Good job because they said [to me] good job and I’ll take that credit. And Keanu [Reeves] is an amazing guy. He and producer Chad (Stahelski) taught me everything I know there. Overall, it was an amazing time.

Before landing in Dallas this season, Marjanovic had stops in San Antonio, Detroit, the Clippers in the Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

He has appeared in 33 games this season and has averages of 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds per while logging in 8.7 minutes an outing. (JB)
