Boracay Island, Philippines – Buddy Hield missed only one of his 10 attempts from beyond the arc to finish with a game-high 31 points, to go with 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals off the bench, as the Sacramento Kings demolished the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night (Sunday morning, Philippine time) at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California.
With his ninth trey to put the Kings ahead 120-98, Hield became the fastest player in NBA history to reach 800 career 3-pointers, by doing it in just 296 games. Two-time league MVP and sharpshooter Stephen Curry was the erstwhile fastest, needing 305 games to reach that milestone.
Harrison Barnes and Nemanja Bjelica added 25 and 15 markers, respectively for the Kings, who improved to 21 wins and 31 losses, which is good for 12th place in the Western Conference team standings.
Dejounte Murray led the Spurs with 17 points, as leading scorer DeMar DeRozan only posted 14, and was ejected after being called for two consecutive technical fouls in the final frame. LaMarcus Aldridge had a pedestrian double-double of 12 points and 10 boards for the Spurs, who dropped to a 22-30 win-loss card.
San Antonio has dropped 7 of their last 9 games, including the current four consecutive losses, and now at 10th place in the Western Conference team standings.
The Spurs will continue their annual Rodeo Road Trip, as they face the Nuggets in Denver on Monday night (Tuesday morning, Philippine time).
Meanwhile, the Kings will travel to Milwaukee to face reigning league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the league-leading Bucks on the same night.
