Concepcion Meets ex-IBF King Canizales in Texas

Recto husband and wife arrange meeting between RP's Concepcion and ex-IBF king Canizales
Fresh from successfully keeping his North Amercian Boxing Federation (NABF) super-bantamweight title over Juan Ruiz February 9 in Domo De La Feria, Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico, young boxing Filipino sensation Bernabe Concepcion visited his friends Texas-based couple Drs. Allan and Gesina Recto who introduced him to former International Boxing Federation (IBF) bantamweight champion Orlando Canizales in a meeting at the Laredo Medical Center Tower B in Laredo, Texas last February 14.
The Recto couple, a long-time friend of the 42-year-old former world champion, facilitated the meeting at the Suite 475 94th Floor) of the tower on 1710 E. Saunders St. at around 4 to 5 p.m. They then proceeded to the Orlando and Gaby Canizales Gym (Laredo Amateur Boxing Club) in 1610 Guadalupe St. until six o'clock in the afternoon.
Aside from their similarity in height (both Concepcion and Canizales stand 5 feet and four inches), Dr. Allan Recto, who is a personal physician of Manny Pacquiao, noted that both fighters are extremely talented and are great performers in the superbantanweight division.
?I wanted Bernabe Concepcion to meet my friend former world champion Orlando Canizalesso I arranged a meeting between them in our office,? said Recto, also a ring physician, who hails from Molo, Iloilo City, Philippines.
Canizales is best remembered for repulsing two highly-touted Filipino world caliber fighters Samuel Duran and Rolando Bohol in world title championships. First to fall was Duran who was foiled in his bid to snatch Canizales' IBF bauble on September 18, 1992 at the Breedan Fieldhouse in Bozeman, Montana via 12-round unanimous decision.
Then came Bohol, a former IBF flyweight champion, who was TKO'd in the fifth round of a 12-round IBF bantamweight tussle on June 7, 1994 at the Convention Center in South Padre Island, Texas, United States.
Canizales went on to pocket the International Boxing Council (IBC) super-bantamweight title over John Lewus on July 15, 1995 and International Boxing Association (IBA) featherweight belt via 10th round TKO over Sergio Reyes on November 3, 1996.1999-09-24 130 Frank Toledo 129 35-4-1 Blue Horizon, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States.
In his farewell fight on September 24, 1999, Canizales lost a disputed non-title 10-round split decision to Frank Toledo at the Horizon in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
