Boracay Island, Philippines – In his first NBA game as a starter, undrafted rookie Terence Davis scored team high 23 points to go with 11 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal to help the defending champions Toronto Raptors eke out a 112-110 overtime victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night (Thursday morning, Philippine time) at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Davis started strong with 13 points in the opening frame and finished stronger, hitting two huge three-pointers in overtime. Serge Ibaka shared team-high honors with 23 markers, 11 boards, 2 assists, and 2 blocks of his own.
Reeling from the injuries sustained by key players Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, Marc Gasol, Dewan Hernandez, and Norman Powell, Toronto head coach Nick Nurse found a gem in Davis to help his team stay in 4th place of the Eastern Conference team standings with 25 wins and 13 losses.
Terry Rozier and Miles Bridges led Charlotte with 27 and 26 points, respectively. Rookie power forward PJ Washington added a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, to go with 6 assists and 2 blocks for the Hornets, who dropped to a 15-25 win-loss card.
Up next for Charlotte are the Jazz in Utah on Friday night (Saturday morning, Philippine time).
Meanwhile, the Raptors will host the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday night (Monday morning, Philippine time).
