Santig is top local boxing promoter in 2019

DAVAO CITY -- Veteran Brico Santig of the Highland International Boxing Promotion is the top boxing promoter in 2019 among the local promoters in the Philippines according to the Boxrec, the boxing's official record keeper.

The 43-year old Santig, who is from La Trinidad, Benguet is already based in Bangkok, Thailand with his family.

He had a total of 12 promotions with 17 titles.

Santig started last year with a promotion at Ram 100 Thai Boxing Stadium in Ramkamhaeng, Bangkok, Thailand in Jan. 26 featuring the title fight between Himeki Kameda of Japan over Sumalee Tongpootorn of Thailand in the 6th round of the vacant Asian Boxing Federation female light flyweight title.

In the next promotion last March 8, former world champion Denver Cuello of Iloilo beat Jack Amisa of Indonesia by a TKO in the 2nd round to win the vacant ABF bantamweight title in Angono, Rizal.

The third one was a double title card featuring vacant ABF super lightweight title (Joepher Montano-Rodel Wenceslao) and the vacant International Boxing Organization Oceania-Orient light flyweight title (John Michael Zulueta-Ariston Aton) last March 30 in Gaisano City Mall in Bacolod City.

Then he went back to Thailand to promote in Ram 100 for non-title fights last April 11 followed by other non-title fights last June 22 at the Highland Boxing gym in Bangkok.

On Aug. 3, Santig collaborated with Darwin Miller Depay and Ermelito Nacar to hold the ABF bantamweight title (Denver Cuello-Detnarong Omkrathok) and the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation middleweight title (Prabhjot Singh-Edsil Jungco) in Mandaluyong City.

He went back to Thailand to promote non-title fights on Sept. 20 in Ram 100 then went again to the Philippines to a non-title fights in Bacoor, Cavite.

His 8th promotion was an ABF super lightweight title fight between defending champion Joepher Montano over Benjie Suganob by a TKO in the 1st round last Oct. 12 at the New Government Center in Bacolod.

Next was a collaboration with his brother-in-law Supanat Chanram of Thailand last Oct. 26 featuring two title fights - vacant Women's International Boxing Association World minimumweight title (Denise Castle-Sutthinee Bamrungpao) and interim WBC Asia Boxing Council Silver featherweight title (Joel Kwong-Julio De la Basez) at the Highland Boxing Gym in Bangkok.

On Nov. 10, Santig promoted three title fights featuring the vacant WBO Oriental super bantamweight title (Alie Laurel-Ernesto Saulong), vacant Philippines Luzon Professional Boxing Association (LuzProBA) super lightweight title (Jose Roda Jr.-Ador Torres) and the vacant LuzProBA flyweight title (Junuel Lacar-Romeo Tenorio).

Santig made a smashing year-ending promotion by having five title fights including a double title-fight featuring former world champion Carlo "The Ferocious" Magali of Bohol beating Al "Rock" Toyogon of Misami Oriental by a split decision to win the vacant ABF super featherweight title and the vacant Philippine super featherweight title last Dec. 21 at the Manila Arena.

The other title fights were vacant IBO Oceania-Orient
featherweight title (Asad Asif Khan-Aiman Abu bakar), Philippine Boxing Federation bantamweight title (Carl Jammes Martin-Philip Luis Cuerdo) and the vacant World Boxing Association Asian female lightweight title (Li Liu-Suphansa Phooong).
